Queer Space Event May 14th at the Winnipeg Art Gallery 6:30pm-8:30pm
I have been invited to speak at the Queer Space event in May where I will be talking about the intersections of my interdisciplinary arts practice, DJing and community organizing from a Black Queer lens. There will be other amazing speakers who will be presenting as well.
Here is a little description of the event as a whole
“Queer space refers to physical or virtual environments that are consciously or organically created to be inclusive, affirming, and supportive of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. These spaces can range from physical locations like 2SLGBTQ+ community centers, bars, or neighborhoods, to online platforms and digital communities.
Queer spaces play a crucial role in providing a sense of belonging, fostering community, and allowing individuals to express their identities freely. The concept also extends to how architectural and design elements can influence and contribute to the creation of these spaces, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, and reflective of diverse queer experiences.
Join us as we explore the multifaceted nature of queer space and celebrate the vibrant tapestry of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. This event promises to be an evening of enlightenment, connection, and inspiration.”
Martha Street Studio Youth Outreach Program Highlights
For the past three months I have been fortunate enough to take part in Martha Street Studio’s Youth Outreach Program! Learning various forms of printmaking has been so much fun. From lino-cut, to book binding, aluminum etching and screenprinting, learning all of these mediums has given me a deep appreciation for printmaking. I was very drawn to using text throughout each medium, playing and manipulating text became my thing and I hope to continue to do that more in printmaking. I am going to miss going twice a week into the studio to make something new, work on an ongoing piece, chatting with other folks in the program about what they are making and eating yummy snacks in between making a print or 10. I am so excited to continue to learn about printmaking, and explore all the ways to make art that is sustainable and can be distributed to the masses!
Thanks so much to all the instructors who were so patient and kind. Learning a new skill is hard but having great people to walk me through made the process easier!
Here are some things I made that I really loved!
World Building as Radical Imagination; TakeHome & Video Pool Residency
The exhibition will run from April 4th-May 9th 2025
I wanna be able to dance (on my own terms)
Artist Statement Excerpt:
“Exploring the concept of spacemaking using projection mapping, the piece I wanna be able to dance (on my own terms) is contemplating the ways in which a space can be transformed as a way to build a Black Queer Utopia.
Cuff, using archival found footage of Black queer people and ones that fit in between the identity, is able to radically imagine a world where cultural reclamation and African retention are at the center of their spacemaking.
The tool of projection mapping acts as a way for Cuff to play with limitless-ness and go beyond the restrictions and constraints of the white supremacist capitalist patriarchal heteronormative imperialist world (hooks) that they exist in as a Black queer femme. Their interest in world building comes from their deep fascination with genres like House, Electronic, and Techno stemming from their practice as a DJ. These genres are inherently Black and move through and around the African/ Caribbean Diaspora but are co-opted and erased in mainstream narratives.”

Experiemental Video Prize 2025
FluxusMuseum Prize for Experimental Video will be exhibited between June – September 2025 in The FluxusMuseum gallery. Selected works will also be uploaded to https://fluxusmuseum.org and shown on other FluxusMuseum platforms such as FMTV (FluxusMuseumTV)
I have been awarded the FluxusMuseum Prize for Experimental Video, where in the coming months I will be creating a new experiment video titled UTOPIA (an ode to the past, present and future) is a single channel video that contemplates the ways in which dance genres such as voguing, dancehall, house are not singular but are interwoven with one another.
Super excited to make new work video as it has already been one year since I made my first short!
